Poet Laureate Irene McKinney begins series of essays
By Irene McKinney
West Virginia’s Poet Laureate Irene McKinney says she has opinions about most everything. She’s not afraid to share them or change them. Irene has traveled across this country and beyond its borders teaching and writing at universities in Washington, New Mexico, California and India. But her heart never left West Virginia and her family’s 300-acre farm. Today, the family farm is home, and inspiration for her memoir.
Irene McKinney: “It seems to me that I am formed by this place, and by talking about this region, and my family and acquaintances, that’s the best way to say who I am.”
Irene’s memoir is a work-in-progress, but over the next few weeks we’ll hear portions of it through a series of essays, like this one Irene calls “Community.”
