Supreme Court hears Massey’s appeal of $50 million verdict

The Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday in an appeal of a jury’s verdict in a case that pits a small coal operator against the state’s largest, Massey Energy. If the jury verdict is upheld, Massey could have to pay more than $75 million in damages. The dispute has raged for more than 10 years.
