Assisted living not an option for many elders

Assisted-living homes have become a popular housing option for elders who need help, but are not sick enough or feeble enough for a nursing home. There are 112 licensed assisted living homes in the state – that’s about 3,500 beds. These homes range in quality, size and services. But state regulators, senior advocates and those within the industry say it’s an option too expensive for a growing number of elders. Suzanne Higgins reports.
