Timber Flute Festival launches in Elkins

By Jean Snedegar
For 35 years, Elkins has been the home of the Augusta Heritage Festival. People throughout the country attend
Augusta over a five week period every July and August to learn more about traditional music, dance, crafts and folklore. Next week, Elkins will add a new instrument to its music repertoire: the wooden flute. The Randolph County Community Arts Center will host West Virginia’s first wooden flute festival. The six-day event is called the Timber Flute Festival. It is bringing together outstanding flutists as well as beginners from at least 14 states.
