The Fibernet Outage Fallout

By Scott Finn

Customers of the telecommunications provider Fibernet filed a lawsuit against the company yesterday over a computer glitch that knocked out service for up to two days. Somewhere between 15,000 to 20,000 Fibernet customers lost phone service starting on Tuesday morning.

That meant for a day or more, there were no incoming calls, no credit-card transactions and no faxes for many businesses, hospitals and police departments across the state. The lawsuit was filed in Wood County Circuit Court. It seeks class-action status and unspecified punitive and compensatory damages.

Reporter Scott Finn interviewed Charleston Daily Mail Business Editor George Hohmann yesterday about the impact of the phone outage on customers and on Fibernet.
