State AFSCME director prank calls rival union

By Anna Sale

Back in February, two labor unions representing state workers held dueling rallies at the state Capitol. Apparently, relations haven’t gotten any better in the four months since. Last week, the director of one union prank called the other union – and then forgot to hang up.

Since when does answering a phone make you better at representing anyone? UE has a reputation of being a union run by its members – from the bottom up. There are no huge salaries or incentives for its Officers and the money it spends benefits it membership. The AFSCME director’s prank call merely shows he is prone to childish behavior. I am not a state employee but if I were I not even consider joining AFSCME after hearing the prank call.
