Big Ears in the Mountains

This story looks at the role a secluded base in Sugar Grove, West Virginia, plays in the federal government’s surveillance of communications. It first aired in March of 2006 on the West Virginia PBS program “Outlook,” just a few months after the revelation of the Bush Administration’s domestic surveillance program. In July 2007, afederal appeals court in Cincinnati upheld the controversial program. “Outlook” rebroadcast this story Aug. 2, 2007, with an update.
