Table Games Vote in WV Comes Down to Kanawha County Canvass

By Beth Vorhees

Opponents of casino gambling in Kanawha Co. are not ready to say they lost Saturday’s referendum, and gambling supporters are not ready to say they won. The referendum has unofficially passed by 33 votes, but the outcome could change Friday when the Kanawha Co. Commission will canvass the votes, going through some 500 provisional ballots.

Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper will oversee the process. He says his outspoken support for table games does not compromise his role as an impartial arbiter of the canvass.
