Coal-to-Liquids Conference Draws Praise, Protests

The 2007 Coal to Liquids conference wrapped up Wednesday at Glade Springs Resort near Beckley. It drew the coal industry, representatives of the U.S. Air Force, and three members of Congress. They say that converting coal into diesel fuel can help wean the United States from its dependence on foreign oil.

The conference also drew environmental protestors. They say coal-to-liquids would increase greenhouse gas emissions and cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
