Guiding the Gauley River

Today marks the first day of the fall whitewater rafting season on the Gauley River. It’s the time of year when whitewater enthusiasts descend on Fayette and Nicholas Counties to sample the river’s roaring rapids.

And it’s not just the tourists who come in from far and wide. The people who guide the rafts down the river also travel long distances for the opportunity.

Anna Sale rode down the river Thursday with some of those new guides in training and filed this report.
