Coal pollution, mining deaths plague China

When it comes to coal, the United States and China have a lot in common. About half of U.S. electricity comes from coal, while in China, it’s closer to 70 percent. Leaders in both countries say they want to deal with the environmental and safety issues surrounding coal mining. Gov. Joe Manchin has been talking with Chinese officials about both mine safety and pollution control. They say they’re concerned about both, but it remains unclear how committed they are to change.
