McGraw’s use of drug settlement money threatens Medicaid funds

The federal government thinks it’s been cheated out of millions of dollars of drug settlement money in West Virginia, and it’s told the state Department of Health and Human Resources it plans on collecting.

At issue are two lawsuits that Attorney General Darrell McGraw settled with prescription drug manufacturers. The federal government has a problem with how the settlement money has been spent. But McGraw’s office says the federal government has no claim on the money, and the threats to collect are politically motivated.
