Maynard, Blankenship pictures raise ethical questions

By Anna Sale

Spike Maynard says it’s “nonsense” that he’s done anything improper in hearing a case involving Massey Energy. He was responding to a motion that includes pictures of Maynard and Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship together in the French Riviera.

The motion wants Maynard to recuse himself from a case in which the Supreme Court overturned a 2002 $50 million verdict against Massey. WVU Law Professor Caprice Roberts talks to Anna Sale about the ethical issues raised by the pictures.
