1 domestic murder every 8 days in West Virginia

Over the weekend, there were two more incidents of alleged domestic murder in West Virginia, that resulted in the shooting deaths of four people. In Roane County, police believe Nolan “Billy” Kuhn shot and killed his ex-wife Candis Kuhn on Sunday. He then shot himself in the head, though that wasn’t fatal. The day before that, in Kanawha County, sheriff’s deputies say Eddie Sigmond shot and killed his wife Gina Sigmond and her friend Steve Woodall when she returned to their home to pick up belongings. He then shot and killed himself.

GeorgeAnn Grubb says it’s murder-suicides like this that add up to West Virginia’s rate of one domestic violence related death every 8 days. She runs the YWCA’s Resolve Family Abuse Center in Charleston.

Grubb talks about how, in the face of such dangers, she advises victims of domestic abuse about how to deal with such dangers when they want to leave. She also discusses recent advertisements by a group called Mad Men and Women against Discrimination that blast the role of false allegations of abuse in custody battles.
