Gay rights bill appears dead in House

The bill to add sexual orientation to the state Human Rights Act appears to be dead as of Thursday night. The leadership of the House of Delegates is balking at putting the bill on the agenda before Saturday, the last day of the Legislative session. 

The bill would outlaw discrimination against gays and lesbians in housing and the workplace. To the surprise of some observers, the bill passed the Senate last month by a unanimous vote. It seemed to catch certain conservative groups by surprise, and they criticized Senators, especially Republicans, who voted for the bill.
